Skin-identical ceramide complex
- Resembles the structure of the natural lipid barrier of Stratum corneum (uppermost layer of skin) for enhanced skin moisturisation and protection ideal for dry and sensitive skin
- Includes concentrated mix of 3 types of ceramides, Cholesterol (vegetable-derived), free fatty acids and phytosphingosine which prevent water loss, dryness and irritation. It restores the protective barrier function and maintains skin integrity
- Ceramides represent about 50 percent of skin’s natural lipid barrier, cholesterol about 25 percent, and other fatty acids making up another 10 to 15 percent
- Ceramides act like a seal between skin cells to lock in moisture and protect the skin from water loss, allergens and harmful microorganisms. Ceramide levels decline with age which can result in dryness, irritation, redness, and dehydration. Lower ceramide levels are linked to skin conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea
- Phytosphingosines in this complex are ceramide precursors which help skin make more ceramides naturally
- Vegetable-derived cholesterol strengthens and repairs skin’s natural barrier by regulating the desquamation process (Which is the natural process of shedding dead skin cells). Topically applied cholesterol will not have an impact on blood cholesterol
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
- Strengthens skin's lipid barrier and keeps the skin hydrated ideal for dry and sensitive skin
- Increases the synthesis of ceramides and free fatty acids within stratum corneum, and decreases transepidermal water loss (TEWL) when applied topically
- Improves skin elasticity
- Anti-inflammatory ingredient which improves post inflammatory redness and sooths dryness and itchiness
- It is not produced naturally by the body, which is why external supplementation such as topical applications are the main source
Squalane
- Occurs naturally in the lipid layer of the skin to prevent moisture loss while restoring skin's suppleness and flexibility
- Has a high affinity to skin cells and its natural lipids due to its skin-identical structure
- Helps to restore the lipid barrier and protects the skin from dehydration
- Lubricates the skin for long lasting comfort however, it's fast absorbing nature leaves no greasy residue
- Recognised by other lipids present in skin such as ceramides and cholesterol, together they restore skin's lipid barrier
Bisabolol
- A major constituent (up to 50%) of German Chamomile which has been used in the traditional medicines of Europe for hundreds of yearsfor its soothing benefits
- Has moisturizing properties and help reduce discomfort due to excess dryness
- Plays a bio-active soothing role, thanks to its anti-inflammatory action, to reduce redness and irritation ideal for sensitive skin
Propanediol
- A humectant with skin-friendly performance that offers soothing and enhanced moisturisation ideal for sensitive skin
- Absorbs and retains moisture in the air nearby, enhances water absorption in the outer layer of skin and increases skin hydration
- Attracts water from deeper layers of skin to the outer skin layers in dry environments
- Creates a film on the surface of skin to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) to minimise moisture loss
Lactic Acid and Sodium Lactate
- Part of our skin's natural moisturising factor (NMF) which attracts and retains water within skin to reduce dehydration
- Form a film on the skin to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and skin dryness
- Lactic Acid is produced naturally in the female genital tract to inactivate potentially pathogenic (harmful) microorganisms and to support the growth of beneficial microorganisms in vaginal microbiome
- In combination, they adjust the pH of feminine genital area to the natural pH and maintain natural acidity of the intimate zone
